APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
STARTING SEEDS
- Fill: Fill your seedling tray up to 1cm from the top with Mind & Soil Seedling Mix
- Seed: Place 3 seeds in each cell to maximize the likelihood of germination.
- Water: Generously water each cell ensuring the seeds are watered - a moist environment is needed for germination
- Top-Up: Add 1cm of Seedling Mix to cover the seed and fill the tray. Generously water.
REPOTTING SEEDLINGS AND INDOOR PLANTS
- Fill Container: Fill the new container 50% with Mind & Soil Seedling Mix
- Repot: Move the seedling or indoor plant into the new container that you jus filled.
- Top-Up: Fill the sides of the container up to the top so that the plant is firmly sitting in the seedling mix
- Water: Water accordingly for the type of plant. Note: Water retention is higher with worm castings so you will not need as much water and/or to water as often.
TRANSPLANTING SEEDLINGS INTO GARDEN BEDS
- Dig: Dig a hole deep enough to bury the seedling's existing root system and soil.
- Sprinkle: Sprinkle 3 handfuls of Mind & Soil Seedling Mix into the bottom of this hole. Move the seedling from its tray/pot into this hole.
- Backfill: Backfill the sides of the hole with the existing soil so that the seedling is firmly set in the garden bed.
- Sprinkle: Sprinkle 4 handfuls of Mind & Soil Seedling Mix at the base of the plant. Water generously.

Time will tell next spring to see how my garlic does but I took time to prep the garden bed with mixed, well decomposed horse manure and bought some vermiculite to lighten the soil composition. Installed 75 drippers (all turned off for now)and planted one garlic pod at each dripper along with worm casting and Jordans fertilizer. Fingers crossed for some honkers!!!

I used the Seedling Mix to start all of my vegetables from seeds - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cauliflower, cucumbers. The plants are all thriving. This is the first time I’ve grown any vegetables from seeds. The Seedling Mix is awesome!
Cheryl T.
Great germination rate and healthy seedlings.
Jennifer P.
So nice to have a good, nutritious potting soil that is not full of styrofoam, or what looks and acts like it! Everything that sprouted did well in it.
Agnes B.
I've enjoyed using all of the products and the information from Mind & Soil. The worm castings seedling mix has been especially good because the two products are already mixed which saves time.
Sherry B.
Normally I use the Mind and Soil Seedling mix to start seeds indoors but this year I had purchased some other soil for something else and wanted to use that up. Mistake! After about 3-4 weeks the plants were growing, but rather slowly and were not very big. It was about this time that I purchased a bag of the M&S seedling mix and transplanted several of the plants into different pots using the seedling mix. What a huge difference this made! The plants began to grow much faster and were much bigger and healthier when they were transfered outdoors.
Philip S.
All the seeds that I sowed into the Mind and Soil seed starting mix sprouted and transferring was easy. The composition of the medium is perfect. I will definitely be using this for all my seed starting going forward.
Debrah S.
Still haven’t added yet but will be this weekend with the garlic
Kathleen B.
I have been very pleased with the seedling mix. I have used two bags now, and I really have noticed a difference in the growth of my plants. Not only that, but I would highly recommend this mix to anyone who gardens
Liselle W.
This is my second year using the Mind and Soil seedling mix. It’s the BEST. These are my tomatoes, bell peppers and eggplant at 26 days. Terrific germination rate as well. I used Jordan’s seed starting method, so simple and a huge success.
Deborah S.
Using the worm castings seedling mix, my broccolini and broccoli seeds sprouted after TWO days! The seedling mix is amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
Kristina S.
Very nice seedling soil! My little seedlings ate loving it. Being in zone 3, they have to wait a while to go out. They are definitely doing well with this mix. Will be ordering again next year!
Debra C.
I used the worm castings for the first time this spring, and it will definitely be part of my seeding routine. It is easy and clean to work with, and the results are great! The only thing I will change in the future is the number of bags I will purchase. I will double my order next time!

Great soil
Mix- plants love it. Unfortunately it also came with tiny flies from the soil and now I am fighting small white flies on my previously healthy solarium plants…
Chris E.
Works great! My tomato seedlings have never looked happier!
Ruth S.
This product was promoted as sifted and good for starting seeds. I did not find it sifted at all. In fact there were large chunks and sticks throughout. It was extremely expensive and there are better products available in my local garden centre. I will not purchase again.
Sharon M.
Great product! My planfs love it! Fast service, easy to order and fast delivery.
Suzanne R.
Unfortunately, I haven't started any seeds yet. So, sorry

I'm experimenting with different seedling mixes. The photo shows four cells of Alyssum in the foreground, all sown two weeks previously. The two on the left were sown in store-bought organic seedling mix, while the two on the right were sown in Mind & Soil seedling mix. The Mind & Soil seedlings continued to grow at close to twice the rate of the other seedlings, and produced flowers under grow lights well before I was ready to plant out. I got a similar result with pepper seedlings. After seeing this difference in growth, I began amending the store-bought mix with worm castings, and got results that were in between the unamended mix and the Mind & Soil mix.
So, the short story is, Mind & Soil really gets seedlings started well. This doesn't necessarily translate into stronger plants in the long run, however, and I'll be watching for differences in development over time. With this faster growth, I may need to re-think my seeding schedule, as tender plants may get too big before I can safely transplant them into the garden.
The Mind & Soil mix is about three times the cost of the store-bought mix, which is a consideration for me. It may be worth it, however, since it shortens the time needed in seedling trays under lights. The final proof will be in the health of the plants once transplanted.
Deb C.
Love this product from Mind & Soil, I have been ordering the worm castings and 4-4-4 mix since the start of Jordan starting his business. There is a noticeable difference in the speed of the plants sprouting and how thick and full the plants become. Recommended to all my friends and anyone needing a little help as a new or experienced gardener. Give it a try, it’s the best.
Mona C.
I discovered worm castings last year and they seemed to make transplanted seedlings thrive. So this year I’m raising seedlings in this mix which includes worm castings, and so far the tomato seedlings seem happy. There are some chunky bits in the mix, but not a huge hurdle!
Pamela W.
100% germination rate so far!!
Emily I.
I transplanted the tiny pepper seedlings and a celery seedling to their bigger pots with the Worm Casting Seedling mix and a little spoon of 4-4-4 Superfood. These are happy, healthy plants!!
Cheryl S.
having worm castings in with the starter soil has made a noticeable difference in germination rate and growth of seedlings!
Laura S.
Wonderful starting mix.
Superior success with my seeds!
Now that I have found this mix, I will always use it.
Many thanks, Jordan!
Sandi W.
Best seed starting mix out there!! Been using it to start seeds and pot up the growing seedlings for a few years now!! My plant babies love it!!
Karen
Excellent for starting seeds
Linda C.
The only seedling mix I use now! Tremendous, strong seedlings grow under lights so well! The best start for healthy, nutritious plants for transplanting into the garden!❤️
Cheryl T.
This seedling mix means that you will get very good germination rates for your seeds. This benefit continues as the plant is potted on.
Laura
This high-quality seedling mix gives my veggie seeds the best start.
Laura T.
This seedling mix is a game changer! My baby plants are thriving
Megan E.
Well I LOVED it last yr but didn’t receive it this year. Got sent Worm Casting Mix instead.
Andy R.
After more than 15 years of gardening in Burnaby, BC, this year I had the greatest success ever by starting seeds in Jordan's worm casting seedling mix. Broccoli, kale, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, kabocha, butternut squash, leeks, celeriac, eggplant, lettuce – all had higher germination rates and more vigorous growth than I've ever seen in the past. It's more expensive than the typical "seed starter mix" you see in garden centres, but from my experience the worm casting mix is more than worth the price.
Linda L.
I will like to update my reivew on the seedling mix. I started my seeds in the seedling mix and some store bought mix. The seedlings from the pots I used the seedling mix definitely grew stronger and bigger (double in height and have thicker stems) than the one I just used regular store bought mixes. Highly recommend this together with the worm casting and 4-4-4. :)
Alison S.
I LOVE your seedling mix... honestly the tomato and pepper starts were out of the starting gate so much faster than previous years, and seemed stronger and happier too. If you can send me that link I will gladly put in an order for your tranplant kit!
Debbie Lee L.
Excellent customer service. Who would ever thought to receive soil in the mail Thank you Jordon and team Mind & Soil
April I.
Thanks worms and thank you Mind and Soil! What a difference the starter soil makes, amazing!!
Dana W.
I love the loose quality of the starting mix and the worm castings to help with the growth makes so much sense . . .and then following Jordan's suggestion of 5 seeds per 4 inch pot was brilliant . . .I have the prettiest healthiest looking coleus just waiting for warm weather!
Robin N.
Starting all my plants indoors with this mix. I had quick sprouting time with my seeds and they are happy!
Karen O.
Excellent soil. Will buy again
Helen B.
This was my first year starting seeds under a grow light and everything has germinated so well and no more tall leggy plants on my window sill. Many thanks to Jordan for the seedling mix and youtube tips on starting seeds indoors under a grow light. He was also kind enough to hand deliver the seedling mix when I was unable to make it to the pick up time.
Shannon D.
This soil is far better than any soil I’ve ever used for starting seeds. My plants germinate faster, and grow faster, and healthier. It’s amazing. I will definitely order more next year, and the only change I would make would be to start my seeds a bit later because they grow so well. I have also appreciated the help and guidance along the way. Jordan has been fantastic at answering questions I’ve had.
Adrienne B.
99% germination rate so far this season. The plants are so big and beautiful that I'm running out of room in my seed starting area!
Trudy B.
I’m such a baby seed starter gardener and it’s been so cold this spring….that my initial plantings are holding tight under grow lights in our ingested workshop…but I love your product. I will be successful…and/or support local farms :-)
Christina S.
I’m very happy with your seedling mix. The plant babies love it too!
Customer
Well my tomatoes are happy and growing fast, better than in previous years without this soil. Yay! Would definitely buy again.
Lori S.
I love this seedling mix!
I've been gardening for over 30 years and my plant babies have never looked greener and healthier.
Thank you to Jordan and West Coast Seeds.
Michael G.
Ready in Prince George to get to work. We will set up some seedlings in a few weeks as our planting time is usually in the first week of June. I will report back!!
Edie D.
I planted the seeds early March and as Jordan promised, 90% germinated in 3 days (grow light, heat mat) - and they started to grow. About a month later, the bottom leaves started turning yellow, so I gave them a fish fertilizer boost. Currently, several of the plants have sprouted flowers - since the bees haven't shown up yet ;-( I've used a Q-Tip to support pollination....fingers crossed
Leah O.
Beautiful seedling mix! I'll need to reorder soon because I went through my first 3 bags! And M&S also has an excellent library of content to help new growers to get started! Thanks Jordan!
Andy R.
I’ve been gardening in Burnaby, BC, for more than 15 years and starting my own seeds for about five years, using a standard peat-based seed starter mix like you find at any garden store. I wanted to test whether Jordan’s worm-castings mix is really better. I started six cells of leeks in the M&S mix and six in my regular mix – seeds from the same packet and all treated exactly the same. The difference was astounding. In the M&S mix I got nearly 100% germination and after just a couple of weeks those leeks were 3”-5” tall. In my peat-based mix hardly any had germinated and the few that did were maybe half an inch. Similar results for broccoli, kale, and celeriac. The test is over – I’m not bothering with the peat-based mix any longer, because M&S has proven to be so much better. I’ll definitely be ordering more next season.
Patrice G.
Everything is thriving - peppers, tomatoes, squash, cukes, salvia, delphinium, watermelon … So happy with Mind and Soil worm castings seedling mix. And I keep the awesome burlap bags for all kinds of gardening storage after the mix is gone.
Peter A.
Greenhouse plants grew well.
Noticed soil was super for germination.
Netta P.
I started late this year, hoping not too late. My first time using this soil for my seedlings and so far I am very impressed. My kale seedling sprouted in less than a week!
Linda C.
These kale and freckles lettuce seeds were planted on Friday, April 8. On Monday, April 9 these seeds had germinated. I have been gardening for many years and this is the fastest germination rate that I have experienced. Must be the worm castings that I am using for the first time. As well, the temp is a steady 70 degrees and I water when the soil gets dry.
Linda Collins, Victoria
kim N.
I am using it for the first time. And honestly in my garden journey, through Mind & Soil, I just learned of this item.. so I will know more this summer when everything is in bloom. We will see if my plants seem better this yr.
s L.
I bought WAY TOO MUCH!
Can I use it as some sort of Compost??
Roxanne D.
This seedling mix is feeding my plant babies very nicely
Kristin C.
I used Mind and Soil seedling mix to grow all my heirloom tomatoes this season and they grew extremely well. There is nothing better than a healthy soil to achieve a healthy plant.
Cheryl T.
Tomatoes and basil planted in Lee Valley seed starters 5 days ago.
Rae-Ann M.
I can’t say enough good things about the Worm Castings Seedling Mix. All of my seedlings thrive when started in this mix. Last year was the first time I used the Worm Castings Seedling Mix, and I had the biggest harvests in years. Even the most difficult to germinate seeds respond so well to this mix. The conveniently packaged sizes make it easy to handle, and it fills an entire tray of 4” pots which takes the guesswork out of how much you need to order.
Sherry M.
Seedlings are doing very well under the grow lamp. Now I’m anxious to try the worm castings soil out in the garden with direct sow for the next planting
Luba s.
I found that my seedlings were healthier than previous nursery seedling mix that I used.. My onions seedlings did great and did not shrivel up like last year. I have done transplants into larger pots. Some are getting too big and need to be moved to my not heated greenhouse but night temperatures are still too cold. I have gardened many years but always learning better techniques. Thank you for your eagerness in spreading gardening knowledge.
Regula H.
Hi Jordan, I am impressed how fast the the Transplanting Kit arrived. Very professional from your side!!! And I am even more impressed by the quality of the highly praised Hori Hori knife. Looking forward to 14th April Happy Hour. Thanks, Regula
Tammy R.
I got decent seedlings last year, but this year using Jord's starter mix I am astounded at the growth I'm getting. One month later exactly, my plant babies are already teenagers, and ready to bust out of the house! My challenge will be keeping them happy until they're ready for the big world outside.
Linda C.
I haven’t started working on my garden yet. I garden out at our lake property in Alberta where there’s still some snow on the ground. Right now we’re actually at Sooke on Vancouver Island until April 25. I’m hoping by the time we return I’ll be able to check my garden areas at the lake and maybe even be able to plant some seeds.
Michael N.
Placed snow peas in pots, watered as suggested and three days later I have 12 snow peas germinated. Still waiting for my tomato seeds, planted at the same time. I have my fingers crossed.
It is a really good product, I'm using lights and a heat mat for tomato plants not the peas, they need a cooler shot at life.
Pardeep K.
First year using this mix. Indoor seedlings sprouted faster and are healthier looking than previous years. Looking forward to the gardening season. Thank you, Jordan!
Renee G.
Last summer I had great success with my garden. The worm castings are such an easy and effective way to feed the soil, especially in successive planting throughout the growing season.
John E. C.
It works like you said it would, some little tomato plants are coming up already. I put seeds in 4 pots on March 25.
Tammie M.
This zebra plant was on deaths door. I tried everything. I repotted it using this soil and it has new green life in the center. I can't wait to start my seeds!
Crystal A.
Excellent product. Saw germination on day 2 and our seedlings are thriving just over a month later. Could not be happier!
Dana w.
So far all of my wee seedlings look very healthy and happy and my turkey baster has never seen so much activity. I start a lot of seeds for a cut flower garden and the 5 seeds per 4 inch pot is great way to have a little bit of everything. The one other thing I do is once the seedlings are up I give them seaweed fertilizer
Linda L.
Just started sowing seeds indoors not long ago using the worm casting seedling mix, so I don't have a great picture to show off yet. Some seeds haven't sprouted yet ...
Love the mix, not too dry, not too damp.
Linda
Tess A.
Great seedling mix! My plant babies are growing so well
Warren C.
We did a side-by-side with "regular" starters that we've used before and the difference is dramatic!
Margaret H.
Jorden...Its too early for me to judge this product as I have just recently planted my seeds.
however I am anxious to see the results and definitely enjoyed your talk at the SSGC meeting.
Blanche B.
After 9 days!
I used the seeding mix with such relief, knowing I was starting my plants with the best. I am so excited to be gardening with mind and soil.
Peggy B.
I haven’t used it yet but intend just as soon as it warms up a bit and I can garden.
Terry W.
Easy to work with and quick delivery to the Island. Our indoor babies starting showing in three days!
Alisha
Onions sprouted in 5 daysfirst year trialing this seedling mix..lots of research to come very exciting
Kathy
The worm castings are such a great addition to the garden. Jordan’s tips on Instagram and live video are so great too.
Brigeeta R.
Jordan and his incredible company have developed products that my (new) garden and plant babies adore! (Seedling Mix and and Worm Casting!). One of my best memories of 2021 was getting into gardening and incorporating Jordan’s beautiful approach to health and mindfulness
Sherri S.
Jordan brings incredible energy and joy to everything he does with Mind & Soil. From the fantastic products to his educational YouTube videos and his ever-popular Happy Hours, his commitment to sharing the mental health benefits of gardening with the world is infectious. Register for a Happy Hour and you'll see what I mean!
Lisa S.
Mind and Soil’s worm castings seedling mix have an almost immediate effect on transplants. We noticed instant growth, in that our plants became vibrant and healthy literally over just a couple of days. We have never had our basil or peppers produce the way that they have since using your product. Even our flower boxes flourished and we attribute it to the introduction of Mind and Soil’s worm casting seedling mix. We know that we are part of nature - not separate from it - so it just makes sense that when we give these natural nutrients to the earth which grows our plants, then our plants give back natural nutrients to us. It’s a reciprocal relationship between us and the land. We are grateful to Mind and Soil for helping us to garden in a way that not only makes our garden more productive than it’s ever been, but in a way that reminds us that we are a part of the circle. It feels hopeful and good to know that we can make choices to have a positive impact on our own food security.
Julie H.
I'm waiting to use the bulk of the seedling mix in the Spring on new plants. In the meantime, I've used some on my houseplants and they are looking very happy!
Susan S.
I was impressed with the quality of the soil. I planted my pepper plants in it. Now I will wait and see the results.
Barbara L.
Lovely blend!
Looking forward to starting my seeds in this blend next year!
Saadiya R.
I used it to start seeds indoors and to pot up my seedlings. It worked awesome. To compare I started some with other brands and potted up in other brand seedling mix and there was a visible difference. Mind and soil seedling mix help them grow much more faster and healthier than other brands.
Thankyou Mind & Soil.
Janice L.
I love having the choice of a natural and organic growing medium to kick start my new plants! The best part is it’s a small BC homegrown business, go Jordon and team!!
Maureen W.
Sharon D.
Jordan made process of ordering very smooth. This is our first time planting from seeds and the instructions provided were easy to follow with great results.
Marla E.
Great product, seeds germination was better than any previously used products. Had 100% germination! Reusable packaging is excellent
Sepi B.
Passion passion passion. Jordan brings it, and as someone who is a full on gardening virgin I felt so good knowing I’m in good hands. Someone who care so deeply is a dream to work with.
Leah
´Black Gold’ soil was exactly what my veggie garden was missing! With Jordan’s expertise, making ‘worm tea’, and feeding the garden pigs (mostly zucchini’s), my garden flourished last season. Can’t wait to get it going again with these fabulous nutrients
Alison
Jordan was so great at offering advice on exactly the best ways to apply and use the work castings. He is so passionate about gardening and sharing knowledge, and his effort pays off in his product.
Kristi A.
Jordan has been extremely helpful! This was my first year gardening and his advice and great soil have helped me grow my garden and my love of it! I’m super thankful I’ve found Mind & Soil and now I’ve got a “soil guy”!
Sudha M.
Best compost I ever used. My plants are thriving with it. Can be used as soil on its own or as compost. Jordan is very helpful and happy to answer any questions about how to use it etc. Very happy with my purchase.
Jennifer W.
This seedling mix has been great for my indoor plants. My lemon tree especially has been flourishing with it.
Natasha
Jordan's knowledge and passion for what he does is contagious. I was so excited to use the worm castings and my baby garden thanked me! I definitely won't ever garden without it in the years to come :)
